Someone said you need to write 100 songs before you get a good one — maybe there’s some truth to that.

Karl Taylor is an accomplished songwriter & guitarist, someone who has focused on their craft long & hard.

Get Yourself Right is the first release from The Level Up Demos, a collection of songs recorded at home on

the kitchen table between 2010 & 2025. They’re explorations of the craft of songwriting, its a tribute to the

generations of gifted songwriters who’ve come before: Stevie Wonder, Lennon & McCartney, Andy Partridge,

John Hiatt, Elvis Costello, Brian Wilson, Jackson Browne, Hayes & Porter, Bob Dylan & 50 years of Motown.

These artists have been the textbook for generations of songwriters down through the ages.

The intention of The Level Up Demos is not to occupy the ocean of noise we live in, but to return to basics.

Most tracks are just a Rhythm Box, DI guitar/bass & vocals — not much in the way of production, but you get

the idea. The songs are carefully crafted real performances, not autotuned. They’re reflections on the human

condition — personal & political. They’re bare bones, with time & effort involved. Over the coming months, a

series of tracks from The Level Up Demos will be released on streaming platforms.Karl’s songwriting catalogue
